How to Conduct Model United Nations Workshop & Programme ?


SIMPLIFIED SOP OF MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE

ASSEMBLY TIME ON____________ | SATURDAY.

OBJECTIVE: 

Knowledge  : Current affairs of various countries, functioning of the United Nations Organization.
Attitude      : Diplomatic conversation and public speaking on a formal platform.
Skills           : Eloquence, team work, dressing skill, documenting skill, researching and role playing. 

WHAT TO DO?
1. A team of 6 teachers will form a cabinet of organs of United Nations and Sit as Presiding members of the United Nations, 6 deputy heads should also be there
2. Invitation of POSITION PAPERS from participating students as delegates. (Position paper means the write up about case study of your own country plus the global issue faced within the country due to external factors like border issues, Forex etc.)
3. Job descriptions of the Cabinet members of the Model United Nations will have to be given based on which they will act on the problem statements spoken during the MUN Conference. 

PROCESS:
(i) Sitting arrangement: PARLIAMENTARY FORMAT. DIAS (CABINET) FACING DELEGATES.
(ii) Each Cabinet member should be a teacher assisted by a Deputy Cabinet Member who should be a student.
(iii) Opening speech of the GENERAL SECRETARY: Purpose of gathering, declaration of meet to be open.
(iv) Name Call of Delegates: Voting, Present or Absent.
(Voting means delegate will interfere in others discussion when invited for doing so, Present means only his/her problems will be spoken and delegate will not interfere in any other countries discussion, Absent means the delegate submitted the Position Paper but is not able to be physically present.
(v) Setting Agenda: 60 seconds agenda will be given to each delegate to set agenda, followed by allotment of time to speak based on the gravity of the agenda.
(vi) Each delegate will raise the placard of the country in the known sequence set by GENERAL SECRETARY and pre-decided time will be allotted to speak out his/her concern. Delegate should have a badge of Delegate/Country pinned on their chest area. The Placards should be Raised High and voice of affirmation should be generated whenever the Name Call of the Delegate is done from the CABINET’S DAIS.
(vii) After all the country delegates have finished with their points; there will be a Moderated Caucus in which delegates will have 30 minutes discussion along with Deputy Cabinet Members.
(viii) After the moderated Caucus, Deputy Cabinet Members will assist Cabinet Member to frame first draft of resolutions while the VOTING DELEGATES will be speaking out resolutions one by one.
(ix) After the resolutions will be spoken out by the VOTING DELEGATES, General Secretary will ask for 24 hours time to document the final resolutions and action plan which will be read out by DEPUTY GENERAL SECRETARY next day in ASSEMBLY, followed by “CERTIFICATE OF HIGHEST COMMENDATION” during the MUN 2018 session. General Secretary will provide certificate of attendance to all the Delegates and will declare the dates on which the Countries will Called for Group Meets and Specific Topic wise Conferences in Different Other Countries.
(x) The MUN Conference - 2018 will be declared to be closed for the session.

Since the video and the output of the Model United Nation Workshop is published on Web, only such students are scrutinized who has developed good flairs of public speaking, else the training time will be depend upon level of eloquence of the students.
                     
Pre-workshop preparation:
Aspiring Participants will have to make study report of  the following topics :
(i)                  UNITED NATIONS ORGANISATION.
(ii)                COMMON WEALTH ORGANISATION.
(iii)               CUSTOM, CULTURE AND BURNING ISSUES IN THE 53 COMMON WEALTH COUNTRIES.
                   During Workshop Activity:
Day one –
General Common Wealth Classes for All students either 9 to 12 or 7 to 9th and based on the interaction with resource person selection of AMBASSORS or DELEGATES of the HEAD OF THE COUNTRIES are to be selected.
Day two – Training of Code of Conduct of Delegates, Purpose of Meeting and Role of United Nations in resolving the issues will be done.
Day three – (Final Day): Real time show run – role play of Meeting of Head of the Common Wealth Countries.
Post – workshop activity:

1. Students will have to maintain a report on issues and resolutions communicated by the United   
     Nations and further can add more suggestions to the United Nations for any issue related to the     
      country which students represent.
2. Schools Facilitating Teachers will prepare summarized report of 60 Pages in the form of PDF playing
     the role of the General Secretary of United Nations.
3. ICT Department of the School will make special blog page and upload the Event Report in the Blog.
4. Photographs and link of the videos in the report has to be included to make the report look lively.
Resources required from the school:
1.       Support from ICT, English and Social Studies teachers of the school in Implementing Guidance & training in all the stages of the MUN Programme.
2.       Video & Photography.
3.       Local Media Coverage.
4.       Custom Dresses of Delegates, Sitting Arrangement, Placards, Flag posts (table top), Auditorium and Sound System.
