How to conduct evening self study or assisted self study classes in residential schools? - By Uttam Chatterjee
ROLE OF HOSTEL TUTORS:
1. Check whether the children are using a communicator for noting homework or not?
2. Ensure the Home Work indicated in the Communicator is completed as expected.
3. Comply with the remarks given by the teacher for parents in communicator.
4. Ensure student has Class Work Note Books, Text Books, Writing Material and a PRACTICE NOTEBOOK.
5. Inscribe the culture of using the word PRACTICE WORK & PRACTICE NOTE BOOK instead ofROUGH NOTEBOOK or ROUGH WORK.
6. Ensure students do their Practice Work like re-writing the question – answers repeated spelling practice and handwriting practice.

3. Maintain a report of such students who Needs Counseling by Deputy Principal.
4. Share the report with Deputy Principal for Initiating corrective Actions.
5. Make the learning room conducive for learning, not unwanted gossip or interaction among students should be allowed.
6. While addressing/ teaching a group of same class for some minutes – (a small but important topic), Keep the voice of teaching / tutoring such that others are not attracted towards your tutoring.
7. While addressing the whole group of students in the same level – Plan a common – CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME for all then execute.

NOT TO DO:
1. Not to focus only on teaching in
the tutoring class room but divide time and topic such that students develop
their self study based learning style.
2. Not to discuss weakness of any children in an informal forum. Such weakness is to be recorded and discussed with Headsl only, who will provide actionable solutions.
3. Not to overlook or ignore any lackadaisical attitude of the student and pick the students up, counsel them in the most heart touching manner so that students understand the concern of the teacher for him/her.
4. Not to forget the importance of maintaining the record of good work being done by you in the class in your log book and your understanding about the children’s need which needs attention of Deputy Principal to act promptly.
