How to make
students develop good handwriting?

|
Students should form letters which
is taught in pre-primary curriculum

Confinement of letter formation
|
The letter must be touching the
lower line and should remained confined between the two lines expect letters
with a curled tail like j, g, y, etc.
|
Small letter should not be larger
than capital letters.
|
Size of the letter formation
|
Size of all small letters should be
same.
|
Capital letters should not be
smaller than small letters.
|
Number of words in each line.
|
Generally in notebook 5 to 7 words
should be written.
|
Do not adjust extra words by
changing handwriting.
|
Gap between each letter.
|
There should be an optimum gap to make
each letter legible.
|
Two or more letter must not fuse
over each other.
|
Gap between each word.
|
The two words should be distinctly
separated from the optimal gap.

The gap should not increase or
decrease between letters or words.

Emphasis on fonts style
|
Simple letter
formation and word-formation without in any simple font which is legible should be acceptable. It may or may not be cursive handwriting.

Don't emphasize on a particular
type of font or cursive writing, clarity, and legibility is enough.

Daily Handwriting Practice
|
Important lines, paragraphs and
definitions should be asked to be written in good handwriting consciously in a
separate four-line or 2 line notebook for juniors and seniors respectively.

Don't forget to follow up for the
submission of good handwriting notebook and give remarks or appreciation for improving.
|
Strokes
|
The specific way of starting and
ending stroke of the letter should be proper.
|
Backward stroke to form a letter
should not be practiced.
|
Importance of good handwriting in
C.W, H.W or GREEN BOARD.
|
Any lackadaisical attitude towards
writing in good handwriting should be worked up by nagging the child to write
in good handwriting.
|
Teachers must not write a remark
about improving handwriting by themselves writing in big, bold, bad handwriting.
|
Handwriting as an Assessment
Parameter.
|
Handwriting is a score giving
the parameter in all H.W and assignments and the same should be justified.
|
Indifference towards handwriting
|
Correction of Error
|
One strike mark or using a small
cap sign to input missing letters should be practiced.
|
Overwriting or scratching the
error with pen roughly should not be practiced.
|
Quality of pen or Pencil
|
In the case of students who use Pencil
the pencil should be HB dark pencil ( H = hard, B = black), the lead should be smooth both in case of pen and pencil. Ballpoint pen with smooth lead
should be used.

Costly or decorated pen or pencils
should be encouraged to be used.
|
Averting frequent mistakes.
|
SYLLABLE FORMATION PRACTICE AND
DICTATION SHOULD BE GIVEN AS REMEDIAL MEASURE TO MINIMISE ERRORS AND STRIKE
OFFS WHILE WRITING.

Students shouldn't be allowed to
make multiple errors and strike-offs done in a fair notebook.
|
Reinforcements.
|
Assignments with good handwriting
must be shown to all in the class and the writer should be appreciated.
|
Don't reprimand any student who is
in the process of improvement instead, encourage them.
|
